Is increased vaginal wetness an early sign of pregnancy? There are many early signs of pregnancy. And they may vary from women to women. You may notice a lot of signs but others won’t experience any. These are but normal. That is why if you suspect that you are pregnant, taking a pregnancy test will remove all doubts.

Pregnancy tests nowadays are accurate. However, these are not error-proof and can fail especially when you do the test 14 days before your period is due. Until you get a confirmation from your OB-Gyne, these are some early signs of pregnancy to look out for:

•             Missed period

•             Nausea and vomiting

•             Tender, swollen or itchy breasts

•             Weight gain

•             Frequent urination

•             Vaginal discharge

However, if you are farther along with the pregnancy and you haven’t experienced any of these signs and symptoms, another indicator to look out for is fetal movement.

According to some women, the first symptom of pregnancy they notice is the increase in vaginal discharge.  If you look closely at your discharges every month, you will notice an odorless, milky white substance. This is called leucorrhea, which is considered normal. You will notice an increase in this kind of discharge, especially when you’re pregnant.

The increase in estrogen levels during pregnancy results in greater flow of blood to the vagina thus increasing your vaginal discharge. The discharge is usually composed of vaginal and cervical secretions, cells from the vaginal walls and bacteria. This secretion’s main mission is to create a mucus plug that will cover your womb and helps the cervix stay closed until labors begins.

You will not have any difficulty checking if you have an increased vaginal discharge if you pay close attention to the amount of vaginal discharge you have every month. If a considerable amount of vaginal discharge is noticed, feel free to do a pregnancy test. Although over-the-counter pregnancy kits won’t work and may show a false negative results if done several days after conception. You can pay your doctor a visit so he can collect blood samples and confirm if you are pregnant or not.

Discharges with foul odor, those that are colored gray, yellow or green and are accompanied by itching or burning may indicate other problems such as sexually transmitted diseases. If this is the case, contact your physician immediately.
