Return to Nature When You're Pregnant

"An apple a day keeps the doctor away", not only a true statement in the old saying but also an apple is a source of antioxidant quercetin that fights cell damage, according to recent studies and the reason why the only time that legendary Johnny Appleseed got sick was at the time of his death.

The legend says that Johnny lived over 80 years without being sick, by observing the healthy habit of eating one apple every day from the day September 26, 1774 when he was born until 1845 when he passed away. They probably count the early days when he was a baby because his mother took the time to eat properly as well.

Fruits and vegetables are natural sources of nutrients, including vitamins and minerals that everybody should include in their diet, but particularly expectant women for the sake of their babies. Doctors recommend in general terms the addition of about 300 calories to their usual intake to guarantee the nourishment for the developing baby.

A well balanced diet must include not only protein to supply this amount of calories, but mainly whole grains and a combination of fresh fruits and vegetables. If your diet is poor in these foods or you have a problem retaining the nutrients, your doctor may prescribe prenatal vitamins.

However, you must remember there is nothing better than the natural way to get folic acid, calcium and iron your baby will need during and after pregnancy.
