Medical procedures nowadays are not surprisingly becoming more advanced. As we enter the 20th century, medical discoveries and inventions have led the way to better management and eradication of diseases. It has also paved way to discover various medications and treatments. So it will not be the first time hearing a robot-assisted vasectomy reversal.

Patients who undergo a vasectomy reversal are those who have undergone vasectomy in the past hence the term reversal. Basically it’s a procedure to undo what has been done before. To better understand we will need to define vasectomy. Vasectomy is a procedure wherein the vas deferens (the connecting tube from the scrotum to the penis) is either cut, clamped or tied to prevent sperm from coming out and joining the semen when ejaculation happens. No sperm will come out thus any chance of conception. The sperm is then reabsorbed by the body. Men decide to have a vasectomy if they want to stop conceiving a child when they have sex. Reasons vary from family planning to personal preferences. Should a man decide to resume the ability to impregnate a women he should do a vasectomy reversal. Those men who has lost their wives or got divorced and continues to build a new family tends to avail of this reversal procedure. A vasectomy reversal also known medically as Vasovasostomy is usually done as an outpatient procedure. The success rate of a vasectomy reversal depends on from how long you have had the vasectomy. Robot-assisted vasectomy removal is the most high-tech way of doing the procedure. The advantages are as follows.

  •  lessens the length of time the procedure usually takes
  • less need for doctors to operate on such simple procedures thus they can be doing other more complicated medical surgeries

A lot of negative feedbacks are casted to the robot-assisted vasectomy reversal as most would say it’s just a waste of money since the robot-assisted procedure costs twice as much as the microscopic procedure done by a doctor. However for medical doctors they see this as advancement in the medical field. This brings us a step closer to future cutting edge procedures, a step closer to the possibility of having most surgeries done robotically.

Either done manually by a surgeon or by a robot the results are what is important for the patient. Since the patient’s goal in mind before going into the reversal procedure is the hope of conceiving a child thus the success of the surgery will only be realized once a baby is conceived.  Even though a vasectomy reversal is an outpatient procedure there are still risks involved in trying to reconnect the small tubes that were once severed and there is also a chance that it won’t be successfully reconnected. That is why in getting a vasectomy you will need to go under counseling to really be certain of your final decision since the robot-assisted vasectomy reversal or the conventional reversal vasectomy is quite costly.
