Caring for Yourself After Birthing

Are you ready to take care of you after giving birth? Postpartum period usually is not planned because most women assume after birthing the pregnancy is over and there is nothing more to care for except the baby, however that is not how it is.

Although the primary attention must be given to the newborn, particularly during the first 2 weeks to detect any disorder leading to slow growth or premature death. Mothers also require additional postpartum care beginning after the delivery of the baby and ending when the mother's body returns to its pre-pregnant state or close to it.

The postpartum caring period lasts six to eight weeks. In fact, in many countries is still part of the so-called maternity quarantine for forty days. After birthing women progress through different changes, not only physically but also emotionally in the learning of dealing with maternity and the adjustments attached.

Mothers need to rebuild their strength, have plenty of rest, good nutrition and multi-vitamins besides help during the first weeks after the baby is delivered. If the parents-to-be get ready in advance by learning how to care for their baby, the postpartum period will be easier for the mother, and the transition from a couple to a family unit will be smoother.

Going outside even if for a few minutes each day, begin exercising (previous medical advice), sleeping when the baby sleeps, having the baby's bed near the mother's bed by night are just few of the things you can do to help care for yourself.
