Pre-Pregnancy Planning

Pregnancy is one of the most important stages of any women's life but very few of them consider the importance of planning the pregnancy, and taking a few health care measures before conception to aid in having a baby with no health problems, including inherited or congenital problems developed silently by the mother-to-be.

Vitamin deficiency caused by prolonged poor diet or changes in food habits, or inadequate intake of dietary supplements, or meals deprivation, are just a few of the common problems in modern society. When it comes to getting prepared for pregnancy, women should take calcium to promote strong bones in the developing baby, and Vitamin B, particularly folic acid responsible for making new cells in our bodies.

Not only pills and multivitamins contain folic acid but also enriched cereal and orange juice provide additional vitamins and minerals helping to prevent birth defects such as the NTD (Neural Tube Defect) which affects the baby's spine and brain development.

Improved nutrition and the adoption of a healthy lifestyle at least one month before getting pregnant minimize the risk of nutritional deficiencies, infections, malformations or any other harm to the baby that may happen during the fist weeks of pregnancy. Furthermore, all women need the intake of folic acid on a daily basis at any age and not only during before and during her pregnancy.

Last, but not least, mental and emotional preparation is also important to avoid depression, anxiety and other disorders during pregnancy understanding the upcoming changes in her daily activities, work and even her sexuality.
