Preparing To Get Pregnant

Nowadays, when it comes to finding the right moment to get pregnant, we can read printed literature, hear about myths and superstitions, seek medical advice and even use software online to calculate your fertile time but how much do you really know about the ovulation process?

Ovulation occurs generally in the middle of your monthly cycle, as an example, if you normally have a 28 day cycle, the ovulation will occur around day 14 when your ovary produces an egg which lives approximately 12 to 24 hours after ovulation, the right moment to get pregnant.

Conception takes place when sperm within your body fertilizes the egg while the egg is still alive. While the egg's life is relatively short, the sperm may live for up to 72 hours inside your body. Therefore, you may enjoy sex with your partner a couple days before the ovulation and get pregnant even if you do not make love on the exact ovulation day.

In fact, many physicians agree there are more chances to get pregnant if the couple increases the frequency of the sexual act one or two days before the ovulation occurs. This allows the sperm to travel up your the fallopian tubes where they will remain waiting for the egg to be released by the ovary.

Start tracking your menstrual period if you are not already to determine the days when the ovulation occurs, find out other instrumental factors to ensure the conception, particularly if you are facing problems conceiving your baby, and have intercourse between days 10 to 18 of your cycle.
