Pregnancy brings a lot of emotions to a woman’s life. Being a mother gives ultimate happiness and will make the mother say that she is a complete woman. Although pregnancy is associated with happiness and self contentment, for some women this may be a very tiring period in their lives. To working mothers especially, these are times wherein they have to do a lot sacrifices and adjustments.

A woman is not prohibited to work when she is pregnant. She can still do the things she is used to just as long as these are not dangerous to her health and the baby she is carrying. Being an effective employee, and be as healthy as can be are some of the challenges a working mother face at the workplace. However, these challenges are very easy to manage especially when the woman has the right attitude and good support group to assist her throughout the entire pregnancy.

Perhaps the most challenging part for a woman would be how to avoid stress. The work place is not stress free. That is why it is important that as early as the woman knows she is pregnant, she should inform her co workers about her condition. By doing such, her fellow employees can adjust her workload, and give her moral support as well. Strenuous jobs, especially those associated with carrying heavy objects should be avoided, as they may cause the woman to labor prematurely. Also, maternity leave can be assigned to you when the time you are ready to deliver. Informing your company that you are pregnant prepares them to staff their employee’s well, especially during the time when you have to absent from work because of your delivery.

Handling morning sickness and pregnancy related symptoms may bring anxiety to working pregnant mothers. When a mother experiences nausea and vomiting, it is important for the mother to not let it affect her performance at work. That is why it is best for the woman to snack often on light crackers and drink plenty of water during the day. This will help alleviate symptoms of nausea and vomiting. Also it is important that the woman manage her time well, particularly in waking up in the morning. Rushing and being in a hurry aggravates the mother to be even more nauseated. Doing routines in a relaxed manner minimizes symptoms of nausea and vomiting that a mother may feel at the workplace.

Stay out of junk food and say hi to healthy foods. If you are used to drinking coffee and sodas, then it is time to sacrifice your craving. The workplace is a venue of unhealthy food, but it is not an excuse to pig out on them. What’s best to do is to pack your own food so that you do not have an excuse to eat junk foods when you are hungry.

Have regular appointments with your health care provider. Doctors always know best when it comes to your health and the little one inside you. By having your condition assessed, you will know when it is safe for you to continue working or not. After all, you are not just in control of your life but your baby as well.
