A woman becomes too vulnerable when she is pregnant. All her energy is poured into developing and protecting not only herself but most importantly, the baby in her womb. Sometimes it is not easy to follow the doctors’ advice or to restrict yourself of activities that have become a part of your daily life. Looking into the more positive side, your pregnancy will only be for 9 months, the DON’Ts can actually be of your advantage since you’ll be assured of delivering a healthy baby in the end.

 If you’re too curious to know the things that you should be avoiding while you’re pregnant, here are some of them:

  •  Thou Shall Not Smoke. Smoking is hazardous to you and your baby. Even if you are not smoking, try to avoid the people who do. Secondhand smoke is as dangerous. Smoking can result to abortion, preterm birth or even infant deaths.
  • Thou Shall Not Drink Alcohol.  Consuming large amounts of alcohol can cause Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS). FAS is linked to several complications such as mental retardation and birth defects.
  • Thou Shall Not Take Illegal Drugs. This can damage your baby’s central nervous system exposing your baby to numerous disorders and congenital abnormalities.
  • Thou Shall Not Self Medicate. You should discuss any use of drugs with your doctor.
  • Thou Shall Avoid Hotdogs. According to several studies the consumption of hotdog increases the risk of cancer.
  • Thou Shall Avoid Reptiles. Stay away from reptiles such as lizards, snakes, iguanas or turtles as salmonella virus can be transferred to humans through their feces.
  • Thou Shall Avoid Vitamin A Supplements. Taking four times more than the RDA of Vitamin A can cause birth defects. It is better to get Vitamin A from natural sources.
  • Thou Shall Avoid Xrays. Exposure to xrays during the first trimester of pregnancy may be risky for your baby.
  • Thou shall Avoid Microwaves. The developing fetus is vulnerable to microwave radiations.
  • Thou Shall Not Drink Tap Water. Drinking tap waters during the early stages of pregnancy can increase your risk of miscarriage. You may want to try bottled water or consult your doctor for better alternatives.
  • Thou Shall Avoid Paint Fumes, Pesticides, and Thinners. There are combinations of chemicals used in these products that can pose danger to your unborn fetus.
  • Thou Shall Avoid Cat Litters and Uncooked Meat. These present the risk of toxoplasmosis which can cause birth defects
  • Thou Shall Avoid Fish. Methylmercury which is a substance found in fish can affect the development of your baby’s brain.

 These are just some of the things that you can avoid during pregnancy. There are a lot more. Some of them are proven by science and some are myths.
